León Cortés Castro

Luis León Cortés Castro ( born December 8, 1882 in Alajuela, † March 3, 1946 ) was President of Costa Rica.

Life

His parents were Fidelina Castro Ruiz and Dr. Roberto Cortés y Cortés. His father was born in Colombia and had studied medicine in the German Reich.

On September 28, 1905 he married in Alajuela, Julia Fernández Rodríguez.

León Cortés Castro was a member of the Partido Nacional Republicano [ wp 1].

León Cortés Castro was Director of the Archivos Nacionales.

During his tenure, there was a banking reform, banana production in the southern Pacific region has been subsidizing the ports Quepos [ wp 2] and Golfito were built.

40 % was under his government the proportion of coffee which reached into the German Empire exported .. One of his counselors was Max Effinger, the head of the Office of Public Works, who had immigrated from the German Empire under the reign of Julio Acosta García and after December 6, 1941 was interned as a German. 1936 a massive prison was built under the supervision of Max Effinger in Liberia ..

He intensified relations with the Nazi Reich and prevented Jews were able to escape to Costa Rica.
