Leon Koudelak

Leon Koudelak ( born July 17, 1961 in Krnov ) is a classical guitarist.

Life

When he was six years old, his parents emigrated from Czechoslovakia to Algeria. His father was a musician and physician. He found out about his father to American jazz. His father has but it also led to classical music, especially to the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák and Martinů. Later his parents moved to Switzerland, where Leon Koudelak at the age of 12 years for the first time heard Andres Segovia play. At 17 he went to Vienna and studied with guitarist and teacher Karl log at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, later at the Zurich University of the Arts on the side of Konrad Ragossnig and was a student of Julian Bream in Liechtenstein. He has a bachelor's degree, the Master of Arts Education and a Masters of Arts Degree ( Art Mag ) received with distinction in Vienna and Zurich. He inspired, among others, the composer Michael Buchrainer to write for the guitar.

After more than 30 years of intensive concert activity he withdrew temporarily from the international music scene back in 2005 and settled down in Thailand to engage more in Asia. He teaches in Bangkok at Mahidol University and Silpakorn University. He also performs regularly in Asia, organized music festivals in Thailand and acts as artistic director at the Thailand Guitar Society. He founded in 1993 the Liechtenstein Guitar Days " Ligita ", 2001, the Asia International Guitar Festival in Bangkok and Pattaya Classical Guitar Festival 2009. In the international music scene, he is described with the reputation of " La mano de santa la guitarra " ( " The holy hand of the guitar ").

In 2011, Leon Koudelak announced on his Facebook info page at a possible return to the international stage. In April / May 2013, undertook a concert tour of Europe, he continues in Asia with confirmed concerts in Bangkok, Jakarta, Kathmandu, Pattaya, Tokyo and Singapore.

Awards

Leon Koudelak is the winner of the guitar competition " Fundation Jacinto e Inocencio Guerrero " in Madrid and received by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research, the Austrian State Prize for his artistic achievements.

He has works by Dionisio Aguado, Anton Diabelli, Lennox Berkeley, Michael Buchrainer, Antonio José, Maurice Ravel, Joaquin Rodrigo, Joaquin Turina, Carlo Domeniconi, Manuel Maria Ponce, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Roland Dyens, Francisco Tarrega, Eduardo Martin, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Leo Brouwer, among others recorded.
