Leonard Peikoff

Leonard S. Peikoff (* October 15, 1933 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) is an American philosopher. Peikoff is a student of Ayn Rand, author of Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand ( OPAR ). He is the founder of the Ayn Rand Institute. Ayn Rand had met at the age of 17 Peikoff.

Life

Peikoff studied at the University of Manitoba and the New York University, where he earned his B. A. (1954 ), M. A. (1957) and Ph. D. Sidney Hook in Philosophy ( 1964). From Peikoff Ayn Rand had been determined to be her heir. From 1995 to 1999 Peikoff hosted a regular radio show: The Leonard Peikoff Show.

Leonard Peikoff held in 2003 a speech to cadets from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on the topic What is a just war? , 29 years after Ayn Rand was allowed to speak there.

In 2004, Peikoff caused a stir with its recommendation to vote in favor of Democrat John Kerry. For the U.S. mid-term election in November 2006, Leonard Peikoff had then also issued a recommendation to vote in favor of the Democrats, who had triggered a partially heated debate in Objectivist circles.
