Leonhard Lapin

Leonhard Lapin ( born December 29, 1947 in Räpina, Estonian SSR, Soviet Union) is an Estonian architect and artist.

Life and Art

Leonhard Lapin graduated in 1965 from high school in Räpina. From 1966 to 1971 he studied architecture at the State Art Institute of the Estonian SSR (Estonian ENSV Riiklik Kunstiinstituut ) in Tallinn. From 1971 to 1974 Lapin worked as an architect in the restoration authority, the Estonian capital. Since 1977 he is member of the Estonian Artists Association ( Eesti art Nike Liit ), since 1982 in the Estonian Union of Architects ( Eesti Arhitektide Liit ).

From 1990, Lapin worked as a lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Arts ( Eesti Kunstiakadeemia ), since 1995 with the title of professor. From 1991 to 1993 he was editor of the journal Ehituskunst ( " architecture ").

Leonhard Lapin is mainly grown in the 1970s with his drawings and graphics known, but also because of its interactions between man and machine. As a leading representative of the Estonian avant-garde, he quickly rose in the Soviet Union, but also in the entire Baltic Sea region to be famous. He also led the first happenings and performances in Estonia.

Under the pseudonym Albert Trapeež Lapin published poetry. Since the 1980s, he is practicing Buddhist.

Awards

1989 was awarded Leonhard Lapin of Kristjan Raud - Prize. In 1997 he received the Culture Prize of the Republic of Estonia.
