Leonid Artamonov

Leonid Konstantinovich Artamonov (Russian Леонид Константинович Артамонов, scientific transliteration Leonid Konstantinovich Artamonov; * 13 Februarjul / February 25 1859greg in Kherson province, .. .. † 19 1931jul / January 1 1932greg in Leningrad) was a Russian engineer, explorer and officer in the Russian army.

Life

Artamonov came from a noble Russian family, and graduated from the military engineering university in Saint Petersburg. He then completed a course at the Military Academy of the General Staff Academy.

In 1897 he became a member of the Russian diplomatic mission in Ethiopia, where he was military adviser to Menelik II, to join the military expedition of the Ethiopian army in the White Nile region to counteract the British colonial expansion.
