Leonid Tsypkin

Leonid Borisovich Zypkin (Russian Леонид Борисович Цыпкин, scientific transliteration Leonid Borisovic Tsypkin; notation also: Tsypkin or Tsypkin, born 1926 in Minsk, † March 20, 1982 in Moscow) was a Russian author, most famous for his novel A Summer in Baden -Baden.

Life

Zypkin came as a child of Russian-Jewish parents to the world. Father and mother were both physicians. Boris Zypkin, his father, was arrested at the beginning of the " Great Terror ". After a suicide attempt, he was allowed to return thanks to influential friends. Boris Zypkin lost two sisters and a brother and, after the German invasion, his mother, another sister and two nephews who perish in the ghetto.

Leonid Zypkin began to study medicine, which he completed in Minsk in 1947. In 1948 he married Natalia Michnikowa. Two years later, the son of Mikhail Zypkin was born. 1957 the family moved to Moscow Zypkin where Zypkin worked as a pathologist.

In the early 1960s Leonid began intensively to write poems. From 1969 it a raise longer allowed to write. Leonid turned to prose. It originated stories, including two autobiographical novels ( The bridge over the Neroch & Norartakir ). 1977 requested Zypkins son Michael and his wife a visa and immigrated to the United States. Then Zypkin was demoted in the hierarchy under the simple academic staff without PhD, whose two he owned. Visa applications Zypkins and his wife were rejected in the subsequent period.

Between 1977 and 1980 Zypkin wrote to his greatest work: A Summer in Baden -Baden. A publication of the novel was not possible in the USSR, so that he could smuggle a copy of the manuscript from a fellow journalists from the country.

On March 13, was published in 1982 in the "Novaya Gazeta" with some images shot himself the first episode of the novel. A week later Zypkin died of a heart attack.
