Leonidas Kavakos

Leonidas Kavakos (Greek Λεωνίδας Καβάκος; born October 30, 1967 in Athens, Greece ) is a Greek violinist and conductor.

Kavakos began his musical studies at age five and put them at the Greek Conservatory of Music in Athens Stelios Kafantaris continued. A scholarship from the Alexander Onassis Foundation enabled him to further study at Indiana University (USA) with Josef Gingold.

2001 Kavakos Principal Guest Artist of the Camerata Salzburg and from 2007 to 2009 he was musical director.

Leonidas Kavakos is next to his busy international concert activity as a soloist and chamber musician head of his own music festival in the Athens Megaron (Greek Μέγαρο Μουσικής Αθηνών ).

Leonidas Kavakos first played the Falmouth Stradivarius of 1692 and Giovanni Battista Guadagnini one from 1782 (Turin ). Since February 2010, Kavakos plays the Abergavenny Stradivarius of 1724.
