Leonie Rysanek

Leonie Rysanek ( born November 14, 1926 in Vienna, † March 7, 1998 ibid ) was an Austrian opera singer (soprano ).

Life

Leonie Rysanek was engaged from 1955 to 1991 at the Vienna State Opera from 1959 to 1996 in addition to the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Both houses it was among the biggest stars of her time and was enormously popular with the public. In the 1950s and 1960s, she sang regularly at Bayreuth. 1997/98 Rysanek was president of the Vienna Festival.

Leonie Rysanek died of cancer in 1998. She was buried in a grave of honor in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 33 G, number 27).

Even her sister Lotte Rysanek was a singer.
