Leopoldo Girelli

Leopoldo Girelli ( born March 13, 1953 in Predore, Bergamo Province, Italy) is a Roman Catholic titular Archbishop and Vatican Diplomat.

Life

Leopoldo Girelli received on 17 June 1978 the Bishop of Bergamo, Giulio Oggioni, the sacrament of Holy Orders and was incardinated in the clergy of the diocese of Bergamo. Pope John Paul II granted him on 15 October 1988 title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness.

April 13, 2006 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Capreae and Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia. He received his episcopal consecration on June 17 of that year, Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano; Co-consecrators were Curia Archbishop Robert Sarah, and the Bishop of Bergamo, Roberto Amadei. On 10 October 2006, Leopoldo Girelli Apostolic Nuncio in East Timor. In addition, he was on 13 January 2011 in Singapore and Apostolic Nuncio Apostolic Delegate to Malaysia and Brunei as well as Papal Representative in Vietnam. On June 18 of that year Girelli was also Apostolic Nuncio at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. From his position as Apostolic Nuncio in Timor- Leste and Apostolic Delegate to Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, he resigned on 16 January 2013.
