Les Alliés

Les Allies is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Les Allies is located at 975 m, about nine kilometers northeast of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the longitudinal trough of the Ruisseau des Etraches south of Doubstals, at the northern foot of the Montagne du Larmont, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​5:28 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley of the Ruisseau des Etraches which drains a longitudinal recess in the system of the Jura chain and southwest to the Doubs. The municipal area covers the surrounding hills, which are oriented in the southwest-northeast, according to the strike of the Jura Mountains in the region. North of the valley are located partly lined with pastures, some with forest heights of Les Champs (up to 1090 m), in the south of the wooded ridge of Cernet, on with 1171 m the highest peak of Les Allies is achieved.

Neighboring municipalities of Les Allies are Pontarlier in the West, Hauterive- la- face in the north and the Swiss towns of Val- de -Travers and Les Verrières in the southeast.

History

In the Middle Ages was then still called Les Arcenets small village to the monastic rule Montbenoît. After a further deforestation and redesign the village was given the name Les Allemands (translated the German ). Shortly after the beginning of the First World War, the village in 1915, after a referendum held in Les Allies ( the Allies translated) renamed.

Attractions

The village church of Les Allies was rebuilt in the 19th century and has a rich interior, including a sculpted wooden altar from the 18th century and an altar of the Virgin Mary from the 17th century.

Population

With 123 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Les Allies is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 230 people were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Les Allies was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture ( dairy farming and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Pontarlier to Les Gras. Another road connection with Montbenoît.
