Les Combes

Les Combes is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Les Combes is on 913 m, 5 km west of Morteau and about 23 km northeast of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The scattered settlement municipality extends in the Jura, on a plateau north of the Taleinschnitts of the Doubs, east of the plateau of Gilley.

The area of ​​17.58 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by a weakly in relief plateau, which is on average 900 m. It shows a loose structure of meadow and woodland and has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. In the East, this plateau is bounded by a broad ridge, which reaches out from Mont Tantillon to the southwest. On the lined with pastures crest of Mont Rognon is with 1031 m the highest elevation reached by Les Combes. This ridge falls steeply to the south Doubs Valley. Neighboring municipalities of Les Combes are Four -Luisans in the north, Morteau in the east, Grand'Combe- Châteleu and Ville -du -Pont in the south and La Longeville and Gilley in the West.

Attractions

Churches from the 19th century are situated in the districts Colombière and La Motte. Economy and infrastructure

Les Combes was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming ) embossed village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Morteau by Gilley. Further road links exist with Montbenoît and Orchamps -Vennes.
