Les Ollières

Ollières is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Ollières is located on 692 m above sea level. M., about 10 km north- northeast of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends a scenic location on a wide natural terrace overlooking the valley of Filière, the Alpine foothills northeast of the basin of Annecy, at the foot of the striking peak formation of the Tête du Parmelan, in Genevois.

The area of ​​11.64 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The central part of the territory is occupied by a large, partly with meadow land, partly covered with forest plateau at the foot of the Bornes Alps. With 794 m above sea level. M. is achieved at the level at Chez les Bois is the highest elevation of Ollières. The plateau descends to the north and west with relatively gently inclined slopes to the valley of Filière from, which always forms the municipal boundary. History

The municipality of Les Ollières been inhabited since the Neolithic period. Is first mentioned Ollières in the early 15th century. The place name probably comes from the Old French word Olier ( pottery ).

Attractions

The village church of Les Ollières got its present shape in the new construction in the 19th century, the choir of the previous building was included from 1508.

Population

With 840 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Ollières is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still 502 residents counted in Ollières ).
