Les Pommerats

Les Pommerats was until December 31, 2008, a municipality in the district Franches- Montagnes in the canton of Jura in Switzerland.

She has merged with effect on 1 January 2009 along with Goumois and Saignelégier Saignelégier to the municipality. The former German name Bresselerwalden is no longer used today.

Geography

Les Pommerats is located on 899 m above sea level. M., 2 km north- northwest of the district municipal seat Saignelégier (air line). The village is located on a terrace of the northern mountains free (French Freiberge ), at the edge of the deep valley of the Doubs.

The area of ​​11.5 km ² large former municipal area comprises the southern and eastern part of a section of the gently undulating plateau of the Jura plateau, on the alternate boggy, usually above ground endorheic valleys with peaks of limestone. In the Southeast, was at the height of Le Haut Bémont with 1'072 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Les Pommerats achieved. The western and northwestern border was in the range of the steep drop to the canyon-like cut into the plateau Jura Doubs Valley. To the north the municipality on the Côte de Sciet and the outcrop of the Château Cugny stretched down on the right side of the valley up to the Doubs, the river formed the border with France. From the municipality surface 1997 2 % came from settlements, 59 % of forest and shrubs, 38% to agriculture and slightly less than 1% was unproductive land.

At Les Pommerats included several individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Les Pommerats were Goumois, Muriaux, Saignelégier, Le Bémont, Les Enfers and Soubey in the Canton of Jura and Indevillers in neighboring France.

Population

With 252 inhabitants ( end of 2007) Les Pommerats one of the small communities of the Canton of Jura. Of the 92.2 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 7.4 % and 0.4 % Spanish speaking (as of 2000). Since 1870 (at that time more than 450 inhabitants) has dramatically decreased the population of Les Pommerats. After the population in the meantime had less than 200 people, a slightly rising trend since 1980 was recorded again.

Economy

Les Pommerats is still strong dominantly agricultural village with dairy farming and cattle breeding. Outside the primary sector, there are also jobs in the village in the watch manufacturing as well as in the local small businesses. However, many of the working population commuters and work mainly in the neighboring Saignelégier.

Traffic

Les Pommerats is off the major thoroughfares, but can easily be reached by Saignelégier. The Postbus course, which runs from Tramelan via Saignelégier after Goumois, makes a detour to the village center of Les Pommerats.

History

The first mention of Les Pommerats goes back to the year 1337. The village belonged to the manor free mountains covered by the prince-bishops of Basel. Between 1793 and 1815 Les Pommerats belonged to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern and on 1 January 1979 at the newly founded Canton Jura. After the voters had approved the merger proposed in June 2007, Les Pommerats Goumois and Saignelégier have partnered with effect from 1 January 2009 the new community Saignelégier.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Pierre -et -Paul was built in the years 1784-86. Les Pommerats was then dependent on the parish Montfaucon, to the church of Saignelégier to 1626.
