Les Surfs

The Surfs were a Malagasy pop group of French-speaking music direction Yéyé that officially existed from 1963 to 1971.

History

The six members of the Surfs were four brothers and two sisters, the eldest of twelve children of Rabaraona family. In 1958, they formed a group called Les Beryl, whose main influence was the Platters. They successfully took part in a competition in Tananarive and won a plane ticket to Paris, where she on September 8, 1963 their homeland Madagascar presented at the Porte de Versailles during the first broadcast of the second television station of Télévision Française. Later Roger Marouani took it for the record label Disques Festival under contract. He named the group Les Surfs in order to benefit from the current popularity of the musical genre of the same name.

In 1963 they took Reviens vite et oublie on, a cover version of the title Be My Baby by the Ronettes, and gained thanks to this title a first notable success before they participated in the Tournée of Sheila ( Frank Alamo ). Their small body size (1.48 m on average) is one of the elements that make up its charm. They recorded several commercial successes, to the sound of Yéyé that were adaptations of Anglo-Saxon hits the great majority, such as Si j'avais un marteau, va pas comme ça T'en, Shoop shoop ... va l' embrasser, Adieu chagrin (re- recording of a song by the Beatles ), Scandale dans la famille à présent tu peux or t'en all. The repertoire of the group remained low in the original title, but what it did not bother the audience. In 1966, the Surfs were among the stars of the moment, which are mapped to the mythical Photo of Salut les copains, immortalized by Jean -Marie Périer. Nevertheless, the success took then very quickly, and they left the following year to take more pictures. After their tours in Quebec, in 1971 they decided to split up and settled in Montreal. The unexpected changes in musical fashion and also in family members' lives - Monique and Nicole are both three times the mothers - are one of the reasons that they urged to quit. In its active period, the Group sold approximately four million records.

In Québec, Monique and her brother Rocky pursued each a solo career. They found in 1979 to each other again to form a duo under the name Monique et Rocky for two years. The duo broke up in 1981 when Monique decided to return to France. On tour in Madagascar in 1989, she founded the group Les Surfs feedback with four other of her brothers (Roland, Remy, Luc and Dominique ) and tried on the production and presentation of television programs. She died on November 15, 1993 in Paris. Nicole died on 5 May 2000 in San Diego, California. Both rest in the family grave in their old village Fiakarana (Madagascar).

Then Rocky made ​​solo career, now under the name of Rocky Surfs (Rocky from the Surfs ), with the presentation of a show entitled: Il était une fois ... Les Surfs ( There was once ... The Surfs ), in he tells anecdotes about this extraordinary group interrupted by their great musical successes. He made several tours in Madagascar, accompanied by the " Surfs feedback".
