LETA

LETA is the largest Latvian news agency. It has its headquarters in Riga.

History

LETA was founded in 1919 soon after Latvian independence as a state news agency Latopress in Liepāja. Still in 1919, she moved to Riga and came under the influence of the Latvian Foreign Ministry. 1920 was reorganized and renamed to Latvijas telegrafa AGENTÚRA LETA.

During the occupation of Latvia by the Soviet Union from 1940 LETA was a daughter Agency of the Soviet Telegrafnoje agentstwo Sowjetskogo Sojusa ( TASS ). During the German occupation of Latvia from 1941 to 1945, the news agency the German news Bürod (DNB ) has been covered.

From 1971, the TASS office in Riga was operating under the name Latin form. On 31 May 1990, the detachment from TASS and the restoration of the name was LETA. LETA was privatized in 1997, owners were Mārtiņš Barkāns and Agris Strautnieks.

Services

LETA operates under the umbrella of its Internet website or other websites for the transmission of messages, images and video files, including " nozare.lv ", a portal for business news. LETA, provides media monitoring services and consulting for press releases.
