Leucius of Brindisi

Leucius from Brindisi ( † in the 2nd or 5th century in Brindisi) was an early Bishop of Brindisi and a saint.

Narrated in the Vita that Leucius originally from Alexandria and had then traveled to proselytizing by Brundusium (Brindisi ), where he became a bishop, many people got saved and died 180 under Emperor Commodus. It is possible here, but also a later confused with another Leucius, who was also born in Alexandria and came to Brindisi, but lived in the 4th or 5th century. The late dating, which is also represented on the website of the Archdiocese of Brindisi, however, does not fit the myth of the diocese founder.

The spread of the cult is attested by Gregory I, centers of worship were under the rule of the Lombards Canosa, Trani and Benevento.

Memorial of Leucius is 11 January.
