Levi H. Dowling

Levi H. Dowling ( born May 18, 1844 in Bellville, Ohio; † August 13, 1911 ) was an American writer, preacher, pastor and forerunner of the New Age.

Biography

Dowling's father was a preacher of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ. At the age of 13 years, Levi Dowling participated in public debates and three years later, at 16, he began his work as a preacher. Two years later the appointment was followed by the pastor of a small church and at 20 he joined as a chaplain in the U.S. Army. In the years 1866 and 1867 Dowling studied at Northwestern Christian University in Indianapolis. From this time he published literature for Sunday schools. Besides this activity, the Americans preached among others at the funeral of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in front of the troops of the Union Army.
