Lewis A. Swift
Lewis A. Swift (* February 20, 1820; † January 5, 1913 ) was an American astronomer.
He discovered several comets, such as the short-period comet Swift -Tuttle, and more than 1,000 objects from the NGC catalog. Swift was married twice, his first wife in 1850 with Lucretia Hunt and his second wife in 1864 with Carrie D. Topping. His son Edward D. Swift comes from his second marriage.
Although Swift had never enjoyed a university education in 1897, the Jackson - Gwilt Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society was awarded to him. The lunar crater Swift is named after him.
