Lewis Wolpert

Lewis Wolpert ( * October 19, 1929 in South Africa) is a developmental biologist and author of several books and textbooks. He also wrote science programs for the BBC and columnist for the British newspaper The Independent.

He was originally trained as a civil engineer in South Africa, but then went to London to investigate cell biology and embryology in the area. He is currently a Professor at University College London.

He was a member of the Royal Society in 1980 and 1990 Commander of the Order of the British Empire. He became a member of the Royal Society of Literature in 1999. His wife died of cancer. Wolpert published in 2008 a book about sadness ( depression).
