Łężany, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship

Łężany ( German Loßainen or Loszainen ) is a village in Poland, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Łężany part of the powiat Kętrzyński in the municipality ( gmina ) Reszel.

Geography

Geographical location

Łężany located in northern Poland, approximately 40 kilometers south of the Polish border with Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast. North of the village is the lake Legińskie ( Legienersee ).

History

The village was founded in 1359. Probably the village belonged to the landed Legienen ( Leginy ).

A Gustav Fischer bought the 1885 with the Vorwerk Plön farms 628 hectares of the estate, his son Reinhold Swabia built by Fischer- Loßainen 1910 a Neo-Baroque palace.

In January 1945, the Red Army occupied the area. In the aftermath of World War II as Łężany Loßainen was part of Poland. The castle had survived the war largely unscathed. The estate was from the Agricultural University Olsztyn ( Wyższa SzkoĹ Rolnicza ), now used part of the University of Warmia and Mazury for experimental purposes. Above all, through the use of Prof. Dr. Dominik WANic renovations was here already performed at the time of the People's Republic of Poland. From the 1960s the palace was once the renovations were largely completed, used by the university as an educational building and hostel for the students. 1973, after the dissolution of the Gromadas, the village became part of the Schulz Office Wola in the community Reszel.

Culture and sights

Other attractions in the village include the castle built in 1910. The castle has a Eckrisalit a veranda and a polygonal turret with a west tower with a hipped roof. The top of the tower forms a lantern. Despite looting the interior is partly preserved. Among the interesting interior details include stucco ceilings in the reception rooms, Eichenwandtäfelungen, the original tiles in the kitchen and the unchanged bathroom upstairs. In the cellar of the house wall paintings were discovered representing emblems of the marine fleet. The house is owned by the University of Warmia and Mazury. Leased in 1992, the Polish politician Tadeusz Matyjek the house and began extensive renovations. 2001, the university wanted to end the tenancy, Matyjek refused and would make a return only after a financial compensation for his investment. A court ruling in 2003 forced him to surrender the house.

The castle is located in a park, which is closed to the north by a forest. In the north- east of the park there is a chapel, which originally represented the mausoleum of the Fischer family.

By Łężany the voivodship road leads 590 (ext. 590). About this is south to 17 kilometers, the city Biskupiec and reach the city Reszel north for about nine miles.

The geographically nearest international airport is Kaliningrad, of about 110 kilometers north-west is located on Russian territory. The nearest international airport on Polish territory is located about 180 kilometers west of Lech Walesa Airport, Gdansk.

In Łężany there is a branch of the University of Warmia and Mazury.
