Lí Ban

Lí Ban [Li ː ban ] is the name of a legendary figure in Celtic mythology of Ireland. She is the sister of the fairy Fanti and the daughter of Aed Abraths of the Tuatha De Danann. It should have been a sea deity or fairy queen like her sister.

In the story Serglige Con Chulainn ocus emirs oenét ( " Cú Chulainn sickbed and the only jealousy emersed " ) is Cú Chulainn of Found punished with an illness because he had them and Lí Ban hunted in their swan shapes. Li Ban urges him on by his charioteer Loeg mac Riangabra to help her in reparation against the enemies of her husband Labraid Luath -lam -ar- chlaideb. In another version Labraid Lí Bans is the father. After Cú Chulainn victory, he must spend a month with Found in Elven kingdom as a reward.

The name Lí Ban derives from the Proto- Indo-European * leiābánniā ( " liquid droplets " ) or * leiābénnā ( " woman of liquid") from.
