Li Gang incident

The Li -speed incident occurred on October 16, 2010 on the campus of Hebei University in the northern Chinese city of Baoding.

The drunken 22 - year-old Li Qiming (李启铭) drove his Volkswagen Magotan with excessive speed through the campus and collided in a narrow alley with two female students. One of the two (Chen Xiaofeng陈晓凤, 20 years), died later in hospital, while the other (Zhang Jingjing, 19 years old) escaped with a broken leg. Li Qiming did not care about the two and went on to sell his girlfriend at the dorm. On the way back Li was detained by security forces of the university. But instead of showing guilt, he reacted arrogantly and expressed the later infamous phrase:

However, this statement triggered the Internet from a veritable shitstorm. Four days later, the blogger Piggy Feet Beta a poem competition with the now dictum "My father is Li Gang " was launched, which received more than 6,000 submissions. The statement stands as a metaphor for the abuse of power of the official Children in China.

The Chinese authorities first tried to suppress reports about the incident, but the protest on the Internet quickly spread that he was no longer suppress. This meant that Li Qiming was sentenced in January 2011 to a heavy fine and six years in prison and his father apologized in tears on camera.
