Li Shijun

Laŭlum is the pseudonym of lǐ Shijun (Chinese李士俊; born March 29, 1923 in Shatou, † November 10, 2012 ), a Chinese - Esperanto writer and translator.

Biography

Li Shijun was born into a peasant family in the village Shatou (沙头 村) in the Chinese province of Hebei. In 1936 he heard as a student, that student in Beijing corresponded since the May 4th Movement of 1919 Esperanto to undermine the postal censorship. In 1939 he found a brochure entitled Esperanto en unu Monato ( "Esperanto in a month " ) and began to learn the language. In 1940 he participated in an Esperanto - part correspondence course and since 1941 he worked actively in the Chinese Esperanto movement, organized exhibitions and guided courses.

1950 was Laŭlum in the preparations for the Chinese Esperanto League ( Ĉina Esperanto - Ligo ) involved and since that time he worked in the editorial of the monthly magazine El Popola Cinio ( " From People's China"). At the same time he wrote ( " world of people" ) for the newspaper Popola Mondo. In the 60s Laŭlum headed the translation department of El Popola Cinio and in the 80 years he was deputy editor of the journal. 1983 Laŭlum member of the Academy of Esperanto (Esperanto Academy ) and member of the State Commission for the qualification of translators and head of Ĉina Esperanto - Instituto ( Chinese Esperanto Institute).
