Liběchov

Liběchov ( German Liboch ) is a city in Okres Melnik, Czech Republic. It is located six kilometers southwest of Melnik on the right bank of the Elbe.

History

Liběchov was first mentioned in 1311 and was until 1403 owned by the country gentlemen of Liběchov. 1410 acquired the Škopek of Dubé. Heinrich Škopek of Dubé, who was a son of the tutor and the Minion of King Wenceslas, offered in October 1412 followed the reformer Jan Hus shelter and protection in Liběchov. He wrote here the font " O poznání cesty pravé k spasení " ( By detecting the true path to salvation ) and also began work on his main work " De ecclesia ".

As of 1430, the ownership changed frequently. In 1547 it got to Kaspar Belwitz Nostic the one to transform the late-Gothic castle into a Renaissance chateau. In 1664 it was in possession of Francis of Scheidler, the former tutor of Emperor Leopold I 1725-1730, the then owner of Johann Joachim Pacht Reihofen of the castle, designed by the architect Franz Maximilian Kanka rebuilt in baroque style. 1801 Liběchov was purchased with the same rule of Budweiser entrepreneur Jacob Veith ( 1748-1833 ), who built a beet sugar factory in nearby Schelesen ( ZELEZNA ). His son Anton Veith (1793-1853) built the castle in 1855 in the Gothic Revival style to. As a patron, he supported artists and sculptors, and gathered at his castle leading representative of Czech Romanticism, including František Palacký, Josef Jungmann, František Ladislav Rieger and Bernard Bolzano, of his writing " The Paradoxes of the Infinite " accomplished here. 1890, the population was 1325 ( of which 660 German ), 1930, there were 1581 (of which 616 German ).

1938 Liboch was added to the Reich District of Sudetenland. After the Second World War, the German population 1945/46, was expelled. Since 23 January 2007 Liběchov is a city again.

District

The municipality includes the villages Liběchov Bozi Voda ( Consecrated Brunn ), Ješovice ( Jeschowitz ) and Maly Liběchov ( Kleinliboch ).
