Libertad (coin)

The Libertad ( "Freedom ") is a produced by the Mexican Mint Casa de Moneda de Mexico since 1981 bullion coin of gold and silver. She has, in contrast to most other bullion coins, no fixed par value, this is redefined based on the current precious metal price daily.

Description

On the front of Libertad's victory goddess Victoria is represented as a symbol of the independence of Mexico. The design was inspired by the monument El Ángel de la Independencia in Mexico City. In the background the Mexican desert landscape with the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatl two is shown. In addition, the size of the coin, the fineness and year of issue mentioned on this side of the coin. In 1996, the design was revised. The perspective has changed and the laurel wreath in the hands of Victoria was omitted.

The reverse of the coin shows the coat of arms of Mexico and the National Locale " Estados Unidos Mexicanos " ( "United States of Mexico "). Since 2000, the coins have an ounce from a new back. This shows the national coat of arms of Mexico surrounded by ten historical forms of the coat of arms.

The edge of the coins was next smooth and bore the inscription " Independencia y Libertad " ( " independence and freedom "). Since 1990, the edge is serrated.

The bullion coin is available in gold and silver. The gold version initially had a purity of 91.7 %, alloyed with silver. In 1991, the fineness was increased to 99.9 %. The fineness of the silver Libertad is consistently 99.9 %. The other parameters are listed in the following tables.
