Liberty Mutual

Liberty Mutual is a US-based company with headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.

The company is active in the insurance industry, providing various types of insurance for its clients. The company was founded in 1912 as the Massachusetts Employees' Insurance Association (MEIA ). The background was that the U.S. state of Massachusetts passed a law which forces companies were obliged to take out accident insurance for their workers.

1917, the name was changed to " Liberty Mutual Insurance Company." Since 1964, life insurance policies are offered. 2002, the Company was organized as a holding company.

In April 2008, Liberty Mutual acquired the insurance company Safeco in Seattle.
