Libotenice

Libotenice ( German Liboteinitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located six kilometers north of Roudnice on the Elbe River and is part of the Okres Litoměřice. The village is known for the tradition of the Easter egg painting.

Geography

The village is linkselbisch below Roudnice at the mouth of the ditch Libotenická strouha. North of the forest area Travčický les begins with the Mrchový Kopec (211 m) and lies on the Elbe Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria.

Neighboring towns are Nučničky and Nučnice in the north, Okna in the northeast, and Lounky Chodouny in the east, Hrobce in the south, Rohatce the southwest, Oleško in the west and Travčice in the northwest.

History

The first written mention of Lubothinicz took place in a confirmation certificate Otakar I Přemysls from the year 1226, in the monastery of the Doksany the 1150 grant by Vladislav II Rights confirmed. 1522 was the village of 15 farmsteads. To the north was the village Chodžovice that fell desolate. Only his church was preserved and from 1703 in the Baroque style by Octavio Broggio.

Multiple of the town was destroyed by fire and the abbot of the monastery Norbert Doxan described in 1641, that on 18 June the farmers of Liboteinitz baked fish and outraged over the fire, which had the entire village to ashes.

Through the Elbe flood of 2002, the place was flooded partially.

  • Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria, the most well visible built north of Libotenice at the same end of 1273 standing house of worship was originally a parish church and burial of the extinct village Chodžovice. Between 1702 and 1703 was carried out by Octavio Broggio the conversion to today's baroque shape. During the communist regime the church was deconsecrated and nad to the heritage authority in Usti Labem rented. After its renovation in the 1990 years the church was consecrated again in 1994.
