Liebestraum No. 3

This very well-known Nocturne in A flat major is based on the love song O, as long as you can love (p. 298) on a text by Ferdinand Freiligrath. The structure of this piece of music can be divided into three parts. Each section connects with Liszt virtuoso cadenzas. The initial melody emerges in the factory again and again, though. Varied in form

  • The first section up to the first cadence can be considered as a prelude. The dynamics is the first part of the first section manageable and repetitive silenced, dreamy impressions are generated. In the second part of the first section, the music seems excited by dissonance and rapid tempo and dynamic change.
  • The second section presents the climax audible dar. accents to the top of the clock underline the Elan. The volume, note values and rhythm are more diverse than before. The pitch and volume to achieve here its maximum and thus contrasting greatly from the rest of the game. Striking in the second section are triad arpeggios and chords, while highlighting octaves in the right hand, which promises great harmony.
  • The melody of the final section functions as a throwback to the beginning of the work. Due to high chords of the left hand playing now crossed over the right hand, the music sounds thoughtful, plaintive, empty and dreary. By continuously diminuting momentum fades the music. The last ten bars of this Nocturnes can be interpreted as a coda. A new design with high, almost serene tones emerges here. For a moment the hope shines on something new, but long, dark tones finish the piece.

The total playing time of the Liebestraum No. 3 is about 4:50 minutes. This Nocturne is provided at the beginning with the addition poco allegro, con affetto and sees itself as emotive and expressive. The Liebestraum No. 3 is a frequently played song.
