Liechtensteinisches Gymnasium

The Liechtenstein Gymnasium ( LG) was founded in 1937 as Collegium marianum by the Marist Brothers as a private school in Vaduz. Since 1981, the school is a public school funded by the state Liechtenstein.

The number of students has been increasing since the mid-1980s continuously ( girls are allowed only since the late 1960s ) and is currently at 720 The average class size in the lower grades is 20.7 students in high school at 17.0 students.

School system

Lower school

The lower level at the Liechtenstein Gymnasium comprises three school years ( grades 6-8), their classes are called with US1, US2 and US3.

From the junior high school from there are three transitions in the Liechtenstein Gymnasium:

  • After 1 year of high school in the second year of high school (US2 )
  • After the third year of secondary school in the 4th year of high school (OS1 )
  • After the 4th year high school in the 4th year of high school (OS1 )

The upper stage at the Liechtenstein Gymnasium comprises four school years ( grades 9-12), their classes are called with OS1, OS2, OS3 and OS4.

The total number of hours in high school is 140; the students are taught per school year 35 hours a week.

In the upper level of the Gymnasium five different profiles available to choose from:

  • Lingua
  • New languages
  • Art, music and education
  • Business and Law
  • Mathematics and Natural Sciences

The curriculum at the high school is composed of the following elements:

  • A number of basic subjects, which are the same for all students ( OS1 and OS2 in 29, OS3 and OS4 26 weeks in hours)
  • A plurality of profile subjects, depending on the selected profile ( six and five hours per week)
  • OS3 and OS4 in: elective courses that will counteract the specialization through the profiles (Four hours per week)

For all students, the availability of several basic subjects is mandatory. Consistently be taught: German, English, French, mathematics, physics, sports. In addition one hours of life skills ( class hours ) per year.

Some subjects are taught only in each grade:

  • In OS1: biology, economics / law, history, art education, music education, religion and ethics

Matura
