History

To Order Liep times was a small fishing village. The place is mentioned in 1338 as Lipa, 1446 as Lieppe, 1785 Liepe, and until 1802 the name Liep prevailed. Liep belonged to the parish Löbenicht. There, where the rafts were landed by the Memel across the Curonian Lagoon and the Deime coming to the city limits at Liep, built Konigsberg bankers and merchants a cellulose factory. It turned out that this location was indeed favorable for the transportation of wood, but not for the supply of coal and the removal of the finished products. Therefore, the North German cellulose AG in 1906 /07 in Kosse district founded. Both works exported to England.

1913 one of the three major pumping stations for municipal wastewater was built in Liep. By the end of the 19th century, the feces of the city were collected twice a week from cars and spread out in front of the city gates in the fields. From 1904, an approximately 30 km long, partly open sewer was laid up to Fischhausen.

1905 Liep was incorporated into the municipality of Königsberg. After the completion of the railroad Liep became attractive as a new housing development.
