Separate Lies ( Original title: Lies My Father Told Me) is a Canadian film drama directed by Ján Kadár from the year 1975.

Action

A six year old boy travels with his grandfather in an old horse-drawn carriage through the streets of the Jewish emigrants ghettos of Montreal. They collect scrap metal, which they get from the residents of the ghetto. Then the grandfather die and also the horse Ferdeleh.

Criticism

" In nostalgic images, melancholic lovingly told story of the Jewish emigrants neighborhood in Montreal of the '20s. In the center of the story is the relationship of a six year old with his grandfather. A very impressive example of devout Jewish way of life that is still being borne by the tradition. Equally impressive is the psychological breakdown of the grandfather -grandson - relationship and the mixture cozy full with pragmatic- empty trains. "
