Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground is the fourth album by Bright Eyes. It was December 2001 to January 2002 in the Presto! Taken Recording Studios in Lincoln, Nebraska and released in August 2002 on Saddle Creek.
In contrast to some previous Bright Eyes releases in which the voice of Conor Oberst and the acoustic guitar were at the forefront, the album has a more orchestral sound (see section involved musicians).

Charts
The first Bright Eyes album managed Lifted ... ' made it into the U.S. Billboard 200 album charts. It was a week at No. 161 and peaked in the independent album chart top spot 11
Reception
The album achieved consistently good to very good reviews. Allmusic called Conor Oberst even as " indie Bob Dylan " and awarded 5.5 out of 6. Pitchfork Media also gave 7.7 out of 10 points a predominantly positive rating.
Laut.de gave 5 out of 5 even the highest rating, and formulated as a conclusion: " [ ... ] with " Lifted ... " Colonel surpasses any expectations ". 73 minutes of playing time to make the album " to a hard to reach, but terrific milestone which leaves less desires rather than open questions. For example, as Colonel would be greater. "
The album also appeared in music years leaderboards in various music magazines. The readers of the German music magazine Visions chose the 2005 album got to number 67 of the 150 albums for eternity.
Artwork
The artwork of the album is similarly opened an old book. In the 30 -page booklet are located next to the lyrics with decorated initials and some prints in Linolschnittoptik. The song name is available exclusively in the booklet; on the back cover emblazoned just a simple "SC" ( for Saddle Creek ) in the middle.
