Lightering

Barges is, to make a laden ship easier by taking out a part of the cargo, with the aim (ie, its loaded draft ) to reduce the draft of the ship. This is necessary if, because of low water ( the boatmen say " small water") to continue the journey with the original loaded draft because of the risk of running aground is no longer possible.

Variants

Lightering ship to ship: Part of the charge is transferred from one vessel to another.

Barges from the ship in stock: trucking companies, shipping companies and other companies that have settled in port, can also facilitate the ship in stock. The removed portion of the charge is stored and transported later.

Barges from ship to truck or rail: Particular goods that must be delivered with reasonable dispatch, are also lightened from ship to truck or rail and then shipped directly to the destination.
