Lighthouse Point is a city in Broward County in the U.S. state of Florida with 10,344 inhabitants ( 2010). The geographic coordinates are: 26.28 ° North, 80.09 ° West. The metropolitan area has a size of 6.2 km ².
Geography
Lighthouse Point is located about 15 km north of Fort Lauderdale and 45 km north of Miami. Adjacent municipalities are Deerfield Beach, Hillsboro Beach and Pompano Beach.
Demographics
According to the 2010 census, the then 10,344 inhabitants distributed to 5,774 households. The population density was 1,753.2 inh. / Km ². 94.0 % of the population were white, 1.7% African American, 0.3% Native American and 1.6% Asian Americans. 0.9% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.6% in different ethnic groups. 7.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 35.0 % of all households lived in 21.1 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 57.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.11 persons and the average family size is 2.74 people.
18.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 17.1% were 20-39 years old, 34.9 % were 40-59 years old and 29.9 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 49 years. 49.3 % of the population were male and 50.7 % female.
The average annual income was $ 76,106, while 7.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 89.18 % of the population spoke Spanish 4.64% and 6.18% had a different mother tongue.
Traffic
Lighthouse Point is tangent to the west by U.S. Highway 1, further Interstate 95 leads three kilometers west in north-south direction past the city. The nearest airports are of national Pompano Beach Airpark and the Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood International Airport.
Crime
The crime rate in 2010 was 179 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There were five robberies, nine injuries, 54 burglaries, 273 thefts, twelve car thefts and arson.
