Lilian Jackson Braun

Lilian Jackson Braun ( born June 20, 1913 in Chicopee, Hampden County, Massachusetts, † June 4, 2011 in Landrum, Spartanburg County, South Carolina) was an American writer.

Her best known work is " The Cat Who ... " series ( in the original: "The Cat Who ... " ), in support of the two cats Koko and Yum Yum journalist James Qwilleran in investigating criminal cases.

Life

Brown began as a teenager with writing as a sports rapporteur for the Derry News. Later she worked as a copywriter for many of Detroit's department stores. She moved to the Detroit Free Press and wrote for 30 years as an editor before she retired in 1978.

Between 1966 and 1968 she published her first three novels, which marked the beginning of " The Cat Who " series. The novels were a great success, and Brown has been declared by New York Times detective of the year. But then came a halt in her career, as tougher crime novels were in demand. It was not until 18 years later was published in 1986 a new book from her pen. Within two years, she has published four novels and let the books from the 60s, republish, and the series once again proved a bestseller. Since then at least one, usually even more books are published per year from its series. In January 2006, the number had grown to 28 books.

How many authors in their year Brown could not make friends with the modern technology, they wrote their works on a typewriter. She lived with her husband and two cats in North Carolina.

The Cat Who ...

The main characters of the series are the newspaper reporter James Qwilleran and his two Siamese cats Koko and Yum Yum. They live in the fictional town pickax in Moose County, " 400 miles north from the rest of the world." As a model Brown served the town of Bad Axe in Michigan, where she lived with her husband for many years.
