Lillie Claus

Lillie Claus Dostal ( born June 13, 1905 in Vienna, † August 20 2000 in Salzburg) was an Austrian opera and operetta singer in the vocal range soprano.

Life

She received a musical education (vocals, piano, dance school ) in their youth. At age 16, she was accepted at the Vienna Music Academy.

She made her debut as " Papagena " in Mozart's Magic Flute at the Vienna State Opera. After engagements at several stages, including Saarbrücken, she returned to the Vienna State Opera. There she heard the composer Nico Dostal, who was looking for a leading lady for his operetta Clivia. On December 23, 1933, she premiered in Berlin's Theater am Nollendorfplatz Lillie Claus in the lead role.

On 30 November 1934 she sang under the direction of Erich Kleiber's the soprano part in the premiere of Alban Berg's " Lulu " Suite in a concert with the Staatskapelle Berlin. In the following years, Lillie Claus concentrated that found by their lyric coloratura soprano attention increasingly to the operetta. Nico Dostal wrote her several of his operettas to the voice.

She took several songs on " gramophone " records. In 1942 she married Nico Dostal and retired surprisingly a year later from the stage. In 1943, their son Roman Dostal, conductor, born. The family lived in Salzburg.
