Lim Goh Tong

Lim Goh Tong (* 1918 † 23 October 2007) was a Malaysian businessman.

Life

Lim was born in 1918 in the Chinese region of Anxi, the youngest of five children. When his father died in 1934, Lim had with his older brother take on the role of breadwinner and leave the school. In February 1937 Lim left China and emigrated to Malaysia to work in the carpentry of his uncle. After two years he was building contractors and built a school. In 1940 he returned to his family shortly return to China, but had to flee from the war with Japan.

Lim founded the company Genting Group and established in the Genting Highlands in Malaysia, the Genting World resort with hotels and an amusement park. According to the American Forbes Magazine Goh Tong was one of the richest Malaysians. He was married and had six children.

Awards

Lim Goh Tong has received several awards, including:

  • Malaysian Entrepreneurs Award 1985
  • Manager of the Year Award 1986
  • Business Achiever of the Year Award 1994
  • 1999 his company was number one in the ranking of the 10 largest Malaysian companies
  • Best Employer Award 1996

He was also in June 1979, the honorary title of " Tan Sri " award by the Government of Malaysia in recognition of his services to the country.
