Limes Railway

As Limes train a continuous single-track and electrified railway main line is called that connects the cities Niederhöchstadt and Bad Soden am Taunus on the southern edge of the Taunus in Hesse.

The only 5.2 -kilometer section is traversed by the S3 S-Bahn Rhein- Main, which leads from Bad Soden via Frankfurt ( Main ), up to Darmstadt.

Past and present

After since 1964 in the village periphery Schwalbach am Taunus in the Main- Taunus-Kreis "on the green meadow " a substantial residential development under the name " Limes City " was created, it was recognized that a satisfactory development with public transport only possible by rail had. With the help of competent members of parliament Georg Leber, who was from 1966 to 1972 Minister of Transport, it was possible to build an electrically powered from the beginning branch line here.

On 22 December 1970, a shuttle between the Niederhöchstadt station on the railway Kronberger and the new station Schwalbach Limes railway station was opened. On November 6, 1972, the existing gap to Bad Soden was concluded that only with Frankfurt-Hoechst had a rail link through the Sodener train until then.

Since May 28, 1978, the S -Bahn line S3 runs on this route from Bad Soden, first to Frankfurt (Main) main station today to Darmstadt main station.

Schwalbach North

Since 31 October 2008, the station Schwalbach North is served by the S3. This is located between the stations Schwalbach Limes and Niederhöchstadt. The commercial area "Am Kronberger Hang " in Schwalbach am Taunus thus received its own stop to allow the employees there a shorter way to work. The station consists of a 210 meter long platform, which was developed barrier-free.

The estimated construction cost of the new station amounted to 1.5 million euros, planning costs amounted to 300,000 euros. Originally, the start of construction in September 2007 was planned, but was delayed until February 2008.
