Lincrusta

Lincrusta or Lincrusta is a portmanteau of the two Latin word elements Linum (Latin for "linen" ) and crusta (Latin for " hard shell" ). History and application

The new wall covering proved soon after its launch in 1877 in a number of application areas to be a resounding success - from royal residences to equipping of iron or suspension railway wagons. 1884 came with the factory Lincrusta Walton in Hannover, the first of its kind in Germany.

Lincrusta wallpaper enjoyed especially the late 19th and early 20th century great popularity. Hence the variety of more than 100 year old examples of lincrusta wallpaper which are still to be found in the most prestigious theaters in the world: about the Cafe Royal in London, Carnegie Hall in New York or the Raffles Hotel in Singapore.
