Lindera

Lindera umbellata

Lindera, German also called fever Bush, is a genus of flowering plants of the laurel family ( Lauraceae ). To her about 100 species are counted. The name Lindera immortalized the Swedish physician and botanist Johan Linder (1676-1723), he was given the genus by Carl Peter Thunberg, 1783.

Description

The species of the genus Lindera are woody perennial plants. Their leaves are alternate to opposite - and are usually fiederadrig, rarely provided with three main veins.

The inflorescences are from 3 to 15 flowers existing pseudo clusters, in turn, are in occasionally crowded grape. You are on short shoots or are sessile. Before the heyday of the inflorescence is accompanied by bracts that are constantly cross and are often resistant. The flowers themselves are triple or irregularly built and getrenntgeschlechtig. You have up to six equal -faceted bloom, but this can also be completely absent or during the heyday fall. The male flowers have nine to 15 fertile stamens, at the innermost stamen circle can be found at the base of the stamens glands. Usually the filaments are longer than the dust bag, which in turn consist of two chambers and are directed inwards or sideways. The vestigial ovary is very fine or non-existent. The base of the flower is small and flat. The female flowers have a variable number of staminodes and have only a weak base of the flower.

The fruit is provided with a small fruit cup or is free of a thickened stalk. The bloom are the fruits usually not resistant.

Dissemination

Most Lindera species occur in Asia, two species are from North America, one known from Australia.

System

The genus is within the laurel family ( Lauraceae ) belongs to the tribe Laureae. An infrageneric classification of the genus it is divided into eight sections, combined molecular and morphological studies, however, that the genus recognized in the classic scope is not monophyletic.
