Linköping

Linköping [ linɕø ː PIN] is a town in the Swedish province of Östergötland County and the historic province of Östergötland. The university and industrial city is the capital of the municipality of the same name. It is the seventh-largest city in Sweden.

Geography

Linkoping is located in a fertile region along the river Stångån ( Kinda Canal ) and not far from Lake Roxen. In the north, the city of the European route E4 is affected, which connects the port city of Helsingborg in the south of Stockholm. There are 200 kilometers to the capital, and 40 km to Norrköping.

Over the years the city has received a geographical spread that an upside-down "V" is similar to the map. The former training ground of the military, which is to be developed into a nature reserve, separating the legs of the " V " from each other and prevents traffic control communication between the southwestern and southeastern outskirts of town. The establishment of the nature reserve is considered important to protect the existing extensive oak woodlands here.

History

Linköping was a central place for the church in Östergötland since the 12th century. The monastery was founded in 1128 Vreta nearby and the oldest parts of the cathedral of Linköping date from this era. In the next century began the construction of the castle. The building in the street Längtan Agata probably belonged to a monastery the Magnus Ladulås was built in the 13th century. As an important church site Linköping was attended by the newly elected Swedish kings in their Eriksgata.

The battle was the beginning of a war between Sweden and Poland, which lasted until 1629.

On January 29, 1700, the city was ravaged by a devastating fire, which, as good as all the buildings of the town destroyed except the cathedral and the castle.

In 1885, Linköping had 11,284 inhabitants, who were concerned with agriculture and horticulture, shipping and tobacco manufacturing. In the 20th century there was a marked economic upturn, especially through the establishment of an aircraft factory by Saab (1937) and the establishment of the University (1975).

The Open Air Museum Gamla Linköping ( Old Linköping ) is located southwest of the city center. It consists of about 90 houses that are older than 250 years of part.
