The Linnaeus University (Swedish: Linnéuniversitet ) was born on 1 January 2010 as a merger of Växjö University and the University of Kalmar. It is a state university with two locations in the Swedish cities of Växjö and Kalmar. It is named after Carl Linnaeus and has approximately 30,000 students, with about 21,000 study at the site Växjö.

History

Precursor

The Linnaeus University was formed from Växjö University and the University of Kalmar. The University of Växjö, dates back to the outpost established in 1967, the University of Lund, in a self Academy 1977 ( Swedish: högskolan i Växjö ) and 1999 was granted the status of a university. The University of Kalmar was founded in 1977.
