Linux user group#Installfests

An installation party, often Linux installation party or shortly Install Party ( in English also install fixed), is not a party in the traditional sense. Rather, this type has originated from socializing as a casual meeting between users of the Linux operating system and those people who take for installation and initial configuration of the system using the old hands to complete. Often many different Linux distributions or BSD derivatives are tried.

Background is the fact that compared to pre-installed operating systems, the separate installation of alternatives can cause some difficulties. It begins with the support of the various hardware components, but also concerns individual system settings.

Installation parties are among the practices in the Linux community as well as the key signing parties to the mutual signing of keys as well as the holding of regular tables with presentations and to share experiences. They take place either as separate events or as part of Linux days.

The largest installation party in the world (Festival Latinoamericano de Instalación de Software Libre, FLISOL ) found with more than 8000 participants on 2 April 2005 in parallel rather than in almost all Latin American countries.
