Linwood Barclay

Linwood Barclay ( born 1955 in Connecticut ) is a Canadian- American author, journalist and former columnist.

Life

Barclays parents settled in the late 1950s near Toronto. His father, Everett Barclay, was a draftsman and painter who worked in magazines such as Life, Look and Saturday Evening Post for the automotive industry and their advertising. In the 1960s, automotive advertising was increasingly determined by photography and so his father saddled order. The family settled in the Kawartha Lakes northwest of Toronto in the Province of Ontario. There the family had purchased a holiday village with huts and storage of caravans. As Barclay was 16, his father died and Linwood was the breadwinner of the family. The experiences of this time, he wrote down in his Last Resort A Memoir report.

With 22 Barclay left the Village and went northeast of Toronto, where he studied English at Trent University literature and his first job at a newspaper, the Peterborough Examiner found to Peterborough. At Trent University, he met the Canadian author Margaret Laurence know who worked there as a writer- in-residence, and had the U.S. Author of Mystery Novels Ross Macdonald 's mentor. In 1981 he moved to Canada's largest daily newspaper, the Toronto Star, where he held a number of editorial posts until 1993. From 1993 on, he became known in the Toronto Star for his humorous columns and comments. In 2008, he left the newspaper in order to devote himself entirely to his literary activity can.

Barclay learned at Trent University met his wife. The couple has two grown children and lives in Burlington southwest of Toronto.
