Lionel Bart

Lionel Bart ( born August 1, 1930 in London, † April 3, 1999 ibid; actually Lionel companion ) was an English musical composer. The most famous musical from his pen is Oliver! (1960 ) based on the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.

Life and education

Despite the early recognized musical talent Bart never learned to write music. After his military service, he tried his hand at various jobs and was active in the Communist Party. Besides, he wrote songs for a radio program. In 1956, he saw a performance by Tommy Hicks and persuaded him to do in the band The Cavemen with.
