Lisa Fonssagrives

Lisa Fonssagrives - Penn ( born May 17, 1911 as Lisa Bernstone in Gothenburg, Sweden, † February 4, 1992 in New York City ) was a fashion model. It is also referred to as the first supermodel.

She went from Sweden to Paris to become a ballet dancer, but was discovered there in 1936 as a model for fashion photography. She appeared on the covers of many magazines in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, for example, Town & Country, Life and Vanity Fair, alone at the Vogue was it 200 times Title Model and still came in 1961 with 50 years on the cover of Harper 's Bazaar. They worked with the photographer George Hoyningen -Huene, Man Ray, Horst, Erwin Blumenfeld, George Platt Lynes, Richard Avedon, and Edgar de Evia.

She married in 1935 the Parisian dancer Fernand Fonssagrives. 1939 the couple moved to the United States. 1950 was Lisa Fonssagrives divorced and married in the same year, the photographer Irving Penn. Fonssagrives died at the age of 80 years. Her daughter Mia Fonssagrives - Solow 's costume designer, her son Tom Penn designer.
