Lisa Gerrard

Lisa Gerrard ( born April 12, 1961 in Melbourne) is an Australian musician, composer and singer.

Life

Gerrard played in 1980, first in the Australian post-punk bands Microfilm and junk Logic and already released a year later their first title as a solo artist: "Mosaic". As a member of the 1981 founded together with Brendan Perry music group Dead Can Dance became known. In the film El Niño de la Luna (1989 ) she plays a starring role. 1995 her first solo album was released, entitled The Mirror Pool ( 4AD/Beggars Group). She is known for her deep contralto voice and sings almost exclusively in pseudo language.

Since the release of Dead Can Dance Lisa Gerrard 1998 is mainly active as a composer for film and television. Some well-known films to which they composed the soundtrack, are insider (1999), Black Hawk Down ( 2001), Whale Rider (2002) and Man on Fire ( 2004). She also sang for the soundtrack of Gladiator ( 2000), which she wrote with Hans Zimmer. For this they received in 2001 as the first and so far only woman a Golden Globe Award in the category Best Original Score awarded.

2005 Lisa Gerrard went for the first time after seven years of separation, again with Brendan Perry, Dead Can Dance on tour in Europe and North America. From the tour various live CDs released.

2006 was published for the first time a DVD that shows their lives and their careers. The DVD is titled Sanctuary, and since June 2007 also available in Germany.

Lisa Gerrard The work on the planned album Mantras of a Lost Archetype has discontinued in 2006 and released a solo album entitled The Silver Tree at Rubber Records instead. The album includes self-composed pieces, including three songs that have been presented during the tour with Dead Can Dance 2005 live ( Yaminar - only in Europe; Minus Sanctus and The Love that Can not Be ).

In 2007 she went to Europe and North America on solo tour, where she presented songs from her new album The Silver Tree, as well as songs from her soundtrack career and Dead Can Dance - time.

In November 2007, the artist took with electronic musician Klaus Schulze on a double CD called Farscape and entered 2008 with him at the Night of the Prog Festival at the Loreley, the Schiller Theater in Berlin and in Poland.
