List of Ambassadors of Russia to Albania

The list of Soviet and Russian Ambassador in Albania contains all the head of the diplomatic mission in Moscow in Tirana since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1924 until today.

History

After the Albanian government of Fan Noli had recognized the Soviet Union in July 1924, had announced its intention to establish relations, Georgi Vasilyevich Chicherin sent a delegation to the future Ambassador Arkady Antonovich Krakowezki to Albania. Due to internal political tensions Noli wanted the establishment of diplomatic relations, but still delay, which is why the Soviets Tirana left again a few days after arriving in December 1924. On September 17, 1934, the Soviet ambassador in Athens, Mikhail Weniaminowitsch Kobezki, also accredited to Albania. On 7 April 1939, the diplomatic relations as a result of the occupation of Albania by the Kingdom of Italy was completed.

On November 10, 1945 diplomatic relations at the level of the Prime Minister were taken. On August 4, 1952, the Soviet diplomatic mission in Tirana was upgraded to an embassy. On November 25, 1961 the Soviet ambassador was recalled, and the diplomatic relations broken off after Enver Hoxha had distanced itself from the Soviet course. The Ambassador Josif Shikin was withdrawn.

On July 30, 1990, the two countries agreed to resume diplomatic relations.
