List of areas of law

As a field of law a branch of the law is usually referred to.

For the question of when one can speak of a separate field of law, there is no generally accepted definition. Thus, private law and public law are considered as the main areas of law though. But the criminal law, which would actually be assigned to public law, is generally regarded as an independent field of law.
