List of Belgian monarchs

Oath to the Constitution

Belgium is the only European monarchy in which the exclamation " The king is dead, long live the king! " Does not apply. According to the Belgian Constitution, a king can only take the throne if he has taken the oath to the Constitution. Albert II, for example, came to the throne not on the anniversary of his brother, 31 May 1993, but only on 9 August 1993. Three languages

Belgium has three official languages ​​, of which Dutch and French are the major. That is why many kings and members of the royal family under two names are known. The current King, for example, is called in French and in Dutch Philippe Philip, the fifth King Baudouin was in French and Boudewijn in Dutch.
